Rings of Dreams Promotions is a boxing promotion organization devoted to helping youth in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina, by offering a structured training environment and opportunity in the sport of boxing. The organization presents professional, sanctioned boxing events throughout the year for boxing fans and spectators.
Rings of Dreams got its name from cofounder Kerry Smith. On a path that may very well have led him to crime and prison, Smith attributes the discipline and self esteem that boxing offered as his escape from the streets. Having dreamed of being a successful business owner, Kerry knew that other at risk kids must have similar dreams. "I wanted a way to teach them that dreams can come true if you work hard at them," contends Smith, "and boxing is a great way to stay focused on those goals in order to attain those dreams."
Since its inception back in 2007, Smith has helped over 100 kids stay off the streets and train for amateur boxing. The sport keeps them focused and provides them an outlet for the pressures and stress that often accompanies at risk youth.
Dreams can come true. Rings of Dreams has become the launching pad for illustrious boxing careers. Derek "The Black Lion" Edwards was one of Rings of Dreams first students. Edwards is now ranked 18th in the world by the World Boxing Council in the Super Middleweight Division, fighting in main events such as Showtime Friday night Showbox – The Next Generation of Fighters.
