Fight Night excited the imagination from its first announcement, and delivered everything it promised. The night started with a Women's Middleweight Championship bout between
Xynthia Nevels-Jones of Fayetteville, NC, and
Tamsha Rodgers of Wilson, NC. While the pair fought furiously, Nevels-Jones was able to take advantage of Rodgers hair repeatedly flopping over her eyes, blocking her vision, Nevels-Jones claimed victory with a second round knock-out.
The Men's Middleweight fight between James "The Heat" North (13-5), the West Virginia Middleweight Champion, and Jay "Baby Boy" Holland (8-5) of Ohio thrilled the audience with Holland being driven to a knee in the 4th and 5th rounds. However Holland refused to go down, and fought furiously for the full 6 rounds. Despite an impressive comeback by Holland, North won with by a split decision.
The third fight of the night, a battle for the WBE Middleweight World Title Fight, was sponsored by Ring Of Dreams. This new belt went to Bonnie Mann (6-2) of Durham, NC, after she won in a unanimous decision over Carrie "Beauty and the Beast" Flock of Charlotte, NC. It was rumored that Bonnie Mann would be signing on to fight with Ring Of Dreams in the next several weeks.
A remarkable kickboxing fight was next on the card. The Match was stopped to allow Dell Sapp to push his shoulder back into it's socket two times, but was cut short by the referee when it was dislocated a third time before the end of the second round. Chris Clodfelter was declared winner by TKO.
The heavyweight fight between Earl "Chocolate Drop" Ladson (18-7), a local favorite from Winston-Salem, NC, and Darnell Chivers of Ohio, was won by Ladson knocking his opponent to the canvas and drubbing him soundly in the second round. Victory was by TKO.
The much anticipated WBE Women's Heavyweight World Title Fight between Carlette "The Truth" Ewell of Winston-Salem, NC, and Ramona "The Hurricane" Crim of Kentucky resulted in "The Truth" triumphing in a fifth round TKO, after displaying keen control of the ring and powerful blows. Ewell, well liked by the crowd, earned the title and the Belt.
A keyed-up audience cheered constantly during the last battle of the night, the main event. Former WBC World Heavyweight Champion Oliver "Atomic Bull" McCall (43-8), fighting out of Martinsville, Virginia, and Cornelius Ellis (17-8) of Wilson, NC, traded punches for the full 8 rounds. The electrifying match was won by the "Atomic Bull" in a closely contested bout. The former champion forced Ellis to a knee in the 1st round, but Ellis recovered and gave the crowd an excellent fight before going down in defeat to McCall, in a unanimous decision. McCall displayed that his comeback was still soundly on-track.
